ACMI and Gandel Foundation look to the digital future

ACMI is thrilled to announce a generous $650,000 gift from Gandel Foundation to support education outcomes over the next three years. The philanthropic grant will support not only the redevelopment and expansion of the education facilities at ACMI, it will also enable the museum to support regional students through the Victorian Government’s Tech Schools initiative.

Thanks to Victorian Government investment of $36.6 million, and generous contributions from many partners, ACMI is undergoing a major renewal project valued at over $40 million which will see the museum transform and reopen in 2020 as a contemporary, world leading museum of the moving image at the heart of Melbourne.

$500,000 of the Gandel Foundation Flagship Grant will support the construction of two revitalised education studios at ACMI, enabling the museum to double the participation in our workshop programs and significantly improve access to learning outcomes. ACMI’s capacity to deliver state of the art education programs will be significantly improved and overall education visitation will double to accommodate up to 140,000 students and teachers annually.

Regional schools support

An additional $150,000 over the next three years will support ACMI to strengthen pathways for young people to industry and employment through partnerships with Tech Schools focusing on entrepreneurship, game design and emerging technologies. This activity will commence in 2019 with the Geelong Tech School with other schools to follow.

ACMI Re/new

ACMI is transforming. Since opening in 2002 as Australia’s only museum of film, TV, videogames, digital culture and art, ACMI has welcomed over 14.7 million visitors, and is today the most visited moving image museum in the world. Thanks to the support of the Victorian Government and the generosity of our partners, it is time to renew ACMI’s visitor experience across the museum to integrate cutting-edge technology and better reflect the rapidly evolving world of the moving image. In mid-2019 ACMI will undergo a visionary redevelopment, transforming the museum into one of the world’s leading public institutions for screen culture and innovation. ACMI will re/open mid-2020. \l
